Curriculum and Learning - Rocky Mountain

The BC Curriculum is well organized and does a good job of breaking down the requirements that need to be taught throughout the school system. The Curriculum breaks down into four sections; Core Competencies, Curricular Competencies, Big Ideas, and Concepts. This aids in breaking down what we want our students to learn and know from large overarching concepts such as “community, thinking skills, and personal/social responsibility” all the way down to base concepts such as learning how to count to 5 in Kindergarten. I think that the curriculum does a good job of engaging us as teacher to teach more useful concepts than just how to answer questions on a scantron and invoke community building and critical thinking skills. Though I do believe that the curriculum could focus more on the indigenous connections that we should be teaching, as these are often left vague and many of the links on the current website are broken or don’t exit at all.
